The Rise of Indian Private Space Tech: Skyroot, Agnikul & Pixxel

With the opening up of the Indian space sector to private enterprises by the government in 2020 via IN-SPACe, a vibrant and rapidly accelerating space startup ecosystem has been unleashed in India.

IN-SPACe: The Catalyst

The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe) acts as a single-window, independent, nodal agency that functions as an autonomous body under the Department of Space (DOS). It allows private companies (Non-Government Entities or NGEs) to utilize ISRO's infrastructure, launch facilities, and expertise. This has led to India becoming one of the most exciting space economies in the world.

πŸš€ Skyroot Aerospace

Skyroot Aerospace made history when it became the first Indian private company to launch a rocket. The Vikram-S (Prarambh mission) suborbital flight marked a watershed moment. Skyroot is developing the Vikram series of orbital-class vehicles, featuring carbon-composite bodies and 3D printed cryogenic engines.

  • First Private Launch
  • 3D Printed Cryo Engines
  • Advanced Carbon Composites

πŸ”₯ Agnikul Cosmos

Known for the Agnibaan rocket, Agnikul Cosmos takes a uniquely plug-and-play approach. They achieved another massive milestone by designing and hot-testing a 3D-printed, semi-cryogenic engine (Agnilet) as a single piece. Agnikul also established India's first private launchpad (ALP-01) and mission control center at Sriharikota within the ISRO facility.

  • Mobile Launch Systems
  • Fully 3D Printed Engine
  • Private Launchpad at SDSC

πŸ›°οΈ Pixxel

While Skyroot and Agnikul focus on launch vehicles, Pixxel focuses on downstream applications. Pixxel is building a constellation of hyperspectral earth imaging satellites designed to detect unseen issues like soil nutrient composition, hidden crop diseases, and precise methane leaks from orbital vantage points.

  • Hyperspectral Imaging
  • Climate & Agriculture tracking
  • Global Constellation

India’s space sector is projected to hit substantial double-digit percentages of the global space economy within the coming decades, propelled continuously by synergistic collaborations between classic powerhouse ISRO and these agile new-age startups.
